Tango in Portugal

This week of tango was in Ericeria, some 40km north of Lisbon and organised by Agnesia of www.danceactive.co.uk. Ericeria is famous for holding international surfing events in the winter. There are a series of lovely beaches and Ericeria itself is a village with a lot of character and charm and tiles (we are in Portugal!)
We were housed in the Ecolodge which is fascinating and a great base. The pool, about 30m diameter has water lillies growing and a host of other plants to keep the water pure. No chlorine in this pool! 6 lodges surround the pool each housing 4 people in 2 upstairs bedrooms with kitchen and bathroom on the ground floor. Balcony, hammock and loungers were in abundance so plenty of opportunity to enjoy the sun. The dancing was on a tiled floor in a communal area set underneath the lodges and half underground. Also on that level was the breakfast room which was a former wine cellar with lots of antiques.
The dinners were all excellent, a couple in house, but the others at restaurants so we experienced a good selection of local food. The best location was the Orchid, on a cliff top, looking one way down to a beach, the other way out to sea and the sun was setting.  They lit a log fire for effect as it was a warm evening! And there as a live jazz band playing!
Jessie and Monica were our excellent teachers and they are based in Edinburgh. The only sad point was that there were only 6 of us to enjoy the teaching and the facilities. I partnered Agnesia and the other two couples were not so advanced. It did mean that my basic technique was closely examined so that did me a lot of good. Agnesia and I got better as the week progressed and we helped each other to improve.
We had outings and a visiting tango couple to dance for us. We had a lovely evening at an open air milonga in Lisbon.
If more people can be recruited for this holiday it would be a fantastic week.
