Martin Alvarado and Miko Helenius in Notingham

Martin Alvarado is one of the great tango singers and Miko is am amazing bandoneon and keyboard player, sometimes simultaneously! They were in Nottingham because Lisa (see Tango in Nottingham Facebook Group) is organising their tour around the UK. Lisa held a welcome party (although it is Martin's third visit to Nottingham) on Friday 18th November which was a lovely informal gathering of neighbours and tango dancers. Then on Saturday the formal concert at the Poppy and Pint pub which was such a good evening. Passionate singing by Martin and superb accompanying by Miko. As well as the passion there was humour in their presentation and a lot of interplay between them. All that great music and we had dancing as well with another of Lisa's playlists.

Tango and Jive at Scarborough

Once again Jive Addiction put on tango and jive at Scarborough. A very convenient location for Lesley to travel south, Sharon and Tracey north and Janet, Joan and I east. So I could not have had a better table on which to dine and Tony (Tony Robinson OBE)joined us on Sunday so we then talked about subjects other than dance. Excellent milongas each evening organised by Stokie with a great variety of music, excellent teaching by Amir Giles on Sunday. Shame they could not stay for the evening so he could thrill the ladies and I could have queued to dance with Tara. Great to meet up with good friends and to share the obsession with tango.
